Happy Birthday!!

To someone special... truly special..

How swift have flown
To me thy girlish times,
A woman grown beneath
My heedless eyes!
In vain I rack
My fancy to believe
The almanac,
That speaks thee twenty-one.
- Charles Lamb.

Wishing you on this blessed moment, the choicest, prettiest and happiest of everything you come across. The path thy nimble foot take you across, be laid of the most fragrant roses from the garden of Athena. My dear, let the year ahead bring you what you always cherished, dreamed and prayed for.
The solemn prayers of my heart shall always seek the one above, blessings, and care on every breathing moment of your life, so precious to me that these words alone can't describe.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! :)

The Great Indian Road Trip- Thrissur,Kerala to New Delhi, New Delhi Part Zero

Hell yeah!!! What you read is true, every word of it !!

Its been a while since I blogged here. Been on odd errands all these time, and add to it, what can be called a "writer's block" :) . But never did I dream that my return to blogosphere would be with something this joyful, that I can't still contain the sheer thrill of it!

Yes! We are embarking on our dream tour, from GEC, Thrissur, Kerala to Delhi( or New Delhi, New Delhi :) )( An ~2900km journey one way). A 12 day journey which includes about 5-6 days on road and a 2-day trip back home in train(courtesy: Indian Railways). No strings attached( except those budget ones :) ). Here's how it all came about:

I wouldn't disclose the entire details verbatim, but the capsuled data is here:

Rohit's dad has been transferred with promotion( cheers!!) to Delhi.

Problem: Make sure uncle wouldn't have no trouble whilst commuting in the Metro.
Solution: Their KL-08 P XXXX Maruti Zen :D!!

Rohit suggested, got approval and thus took birth the crazy idea of taking car to Delhi, driving the entire stretch from TCR! Not to mention the compulsive, obsessive, certified brain-damaged lunatic what-not-ic Bristow to boost the whole concept, the next thing left was to decide fellow tourers- Denny, Raman and Myself!
To put in simpler words, Drivers- Denny Machan n Brittoli, Tourers- Me :) n Raman, and
Last but the best Moyalali of the Vandi- Rayappan!!!

The trajectory and pit-stops haven't been yet decided but I'll update it soon here. Initial suggestion is Thrissur-Mangalore- Deviation to Goa- Pune- Agra- Delhi.

Return Journey tickets have been booked in Mangla Express on July 13th. Surprisingly, a sleeper class ticket from Delhi to Thrissur costs Rs. 600/- only( I ain't much of a rail gadi yathri hence moi ignorance to be tolerated!)

Rest of the details shall follow soon! Meanwhile, you can keep track of me on twitter as well.

The Duck Tales

Set for the leap..

It had always been among my simpler dreams to rear a paddle of ducks. Its something of a wish that you tend to procure wacthing all those lush green fields and ducks swarming into water pools in unison, often a sight from some movie. A few days ago, the day after my lab exams to be precise, I had a chance to be with such a paddle.
A rather peaceful lot

The ducks were reared through a feet deep muddy fields, now water-logged owing to the monsoon rains. I stepped off my bike and went with the paddle for about a kilometre or so. It was pure fun, making the ducks run one way to the other, always doing so in a group. Two men on both flanks assured that the gaggle always moved in single general direction despite their helter-skelter runs.
Can you see the other end??

Upon being asked how they could manage to cage every single duck everyday, the men confessed that its damn tough to get near ducks if you are a stranger, but not so once they know you. Ducks have a tendency to follow the one in the front, and hence, marching the leader in the direction the men decide gets the others humming to the same tune as well!!! Interesting, isn't it??!!

Just another view, nothing big!!

There were about 200+ ducks in the swarm. The men walk with them everyday from noon till twilight before closing them in the pen. It was a remarkably unique experience and a bouquet of everlasting freshness..

One Dream fulfilled...
Many to go...
Buzzing Off...
P.S: being a stranger to the ducks, I couldn't get close enough to take better pics.The above pics are good when seen in zoom mode.

A Giant Leap Year ahead!!

The day was 29th February year 2008. The only leap year in our b.tech life.
As decided before hand, almost all of us had worn black attire to mark this auspicious day.

(It is said that leap year is the time when its girls' turn to propose. At least I'm sure I wasn't proposed neither on this day nor on the valentines day that preceded it!!)

We were smoking our brains out deciding what to do to make the day memorable. There were suggestions of mass bunking(as usual!) for the entire day and going for a movie, having a gigantic snack-time at Wimbies and many more. As I could remember, It was our ex-rep Sailesh who came up with the idea of going all the way to Kaiparambu, where Vidya Engineering College is situated, to attend Perizia, the tech cum cultural fest organized by the computer Sciences and engineering department.

Despite some initial hesitation, we finally decided to give his plan a try. Soon a crowd, numbering between 20 and 30, stepped out from the ongoing Environmental Studies class( yes, we do have this!!).

As was obvious, the gathering of "blacks" caught everyones' attention en route. It so happened that, at Shakthan Thampuran Bus Stand, three people from our group strayed off to have some snacks. Not realizing their absence, the rest of us boarded a bus to our destination. The trio, upon their return were making frantic inquiries about us, when an elderly looking man asked them(obviously noticing the dress code)," Are you among the black cats who just left now??"

We reached Kaiparambu by 12 and waited for the three individuals to catch up. Getting to the college was no piece of cake as we walked the 2 km stretch leading there under the scorching sun. A cargo jeep soon came by and some of us could manage a lift in it till the college. The rest, however, continued tirelessly.

Events at the college were ion full swing as we reached. Hiran came to meet us upon informing. Some of our seniors were already present, participating in various technical and otherwise contests. The participation was free and so I gave my name for Quiz, Programming in C and Mobile Photography, along with others.

Quizzing was never this easy. I was in and out of the lab where the event was being held even before I realized. One or two correct answers and that was it!! The words " You are terminated Mister" beamed at me!!

Next in line was the Programming Contest Preliminaries. Almost all of us took part in it. Vinu, Raman and myself were lucky enough to get through into the finals along with our seniors and some other guys. The final was a nightmare and the question was waaaaaaaaay out of my logics!! Sat for about 3 quarters of an hour and finally wrote the following and came out:

#include
main()
{
printf(" good luck with the event! with love from GEC Devidas\n");
}

:)

It was for the first time that I was participating in a photography contest. This event was more thrilling than the rest, frankly. The task was to click few snaps and present any two that were related to the event "Perizia". Here I include the photos I submitted:

Meantime Rushdie and gang were busy preparing for the Ad-Zap event. While we were "busy" with the programming finals , rest of our company left the place to Neetha's home. We soon caught up with them for the photo session that followed. Neetha's identical twin sister, Neema was also present.

The day had , unknowingly become, memorable with all these unexpected turn of events. There were certainly some newbies among us who would other wise restrain themselves to the class. And surprisingly, there were more girls in the group than us!!

Not all are here!

Another page added to the diary of GEC memories, bookmarked to cherish!!

Hopes Alive...Again!!

Seriously, I don't believe in these online calculators that churn out computed oututs based on answers to multiple choice questions but of course what just came over as a result for one particular test is highly encouraging!!!

Check this link out if interested, and post the results as comments....

Welcome, Stranger!!

This blog post may enter the records for being the fastest blogpost about a new born baby!

My cousin sister gave birth to baby boy today, at 4.04 pm. Since it was a Caesarian, I extended my help in arranging blood for the same. My classmate and dear friend George volunteered for the noble cause and we were present outside the op- theatre, waiting for the call.

The movies we see, often present such a situation ending in a relieving climax with the first cry of the baby crossing the halls, reaching its father and relatives anxiously outside. I guess, it is quite fake a fact as when the good-looking nurse( :) !! ) handed over the baby to my brother-in-law, it was peacefully dozing, intermittently yawning. Its lips as gentle as rose petals, the cute fingers clutched together, the curly black hair, the divine luminescence radiating all the world's innocence.

Perturbed by the cacophony of excited people all around, the baby gave short notes of cry, only to be peaced by his loving grand-parents.

Then came the moment when his elder brother, 4-year old Arjun, came around to see the newcomer in our midst. Curiousity at peak, he extended his forefinger to touch the little one, who had, by now amicably settled in the brighter world. On impulse, his uncle quickly grabbed the hand away, lest the little nails inflict a wound on the sensitive white skin. Shocked by the change of scenario, Arjun turns to his father, and enquires" acha, amma evide??"(Dad, where's mom?) When his father points towards the op- theatre, Arjun tries to free away from the grab on his wrist and attempts to dash off towards the room with a red light on its entrance.

His granpa takes hold of him, and calmingly whispers" Amma ippol varum, nee aadyam aniyane onnu nokk!"( Mom will come now, have a glimpse of your brother first!). His face now red with anger and desperation, he simply walks away from the crowd, obviously estimating in his little conscience that next moment they'll all come over to cheer him up....it didn't happen!

Someone had quoted" The only innocent man in the world is a new-born baby." Surprisingly, this was the first thought that came into my mind when I gently took him into my arms, cradling such a tiny little being for the first time in my life....

Feeling unmeasurably joyous today, despite a desultory hour spent in the morning scribbling through 6 sheets, the answers of complex meaningless problems, sense of hatred for exams overwhelming the desire to clear the paper for better sessional marks!!

Three Cheers to the Men in Blue!! The Cup is Ours!!

An exciting finish to an exciting match. India wins the ICC Twenty20 World Cup beating their neighbour and arch rival Pakistanon Wanderers Stadium. And what a match it was!!

My classmates and I cancelled our daily class at Pramode Sir's to watch this match with great expectations. After reading the article by Md Mudassir Alam yesterday, i was eager to know the result of what he called the Mother of all Matches.

I spent time watching Indian batting at our all-time hang-out- Wimbies with my classmates and many other ardent Indian Fans. Towards the end of the Indian innings it seemed as though there were very little chances of snatching the Cup from the rivals.

I placed a bet(for a Burger :))with my friend on the odds against Indian win. I returned home soon after the batting of the blue squad was over, expecting only a miracle that could save them from stopping Pakistan.

Soon I heard the disheartening news of Sreesanth being hit for 21 runs in a single over. Thereafter, came the moments that will get etched in golden letters in World Cricket history, when Team India was lead on a path of Come back by the captain on the First ever Twenty20 World Cup and what a return was that!!! The final overs were nail-biting moments( as always when India plays Pakistan :) ). The first ball of the last over ,which the last man standing for Pakistan hit for a six,reduced the runs needed for their win to 6 from 4 balls and it seemed to be a nail on India's coffin.

Then ahoy! the ball that followed saw the same batter giving catching practice to our fielder thus pulling the curtains on Pakistan's Innings. Dhoni, captain of the team on this Foreign tour, was on cloud nine as the artistic cameramen rightly showed and the elated Men in Blue went about doing the renowned Indian Huddle and making merry.

The final score card was as follows: India 157 for 5 wickets in 20 overs.Pakistan bowled out at 152 in 19.3 overs. Man of the match awarded to Irfan Pathan and Shahid Afridi was elected the Player of the Tournament.

Team India was seen doing the lap of honour expressing their courtesy to us, the Indian fans for the centum support offered :).

This match proved to be one hell of an entertainer and the win is a great moment of pride for every Indian.Its been 30 minutes since the match has finished and I can still hear the bursts of crackers and other fireworks in the neighbourhood where there is no bound to the peoples' joy. :)

Proud to be an Indian!!!

I welcome all to express your comments on the joy of India's win...
